Judge Judy

Okay, I wasn’t actually on an episode in 2003.

Neither was Hannibal Burress—more well-known for his standup comedy than his rap—whose song, “Judge Judy,” is an absolute banger packed with funny lyrics.

Burress imagines himself as a defendant in Judge Judy’s small claims court in 2003 for…not paying rent for 1,000 weeks (20 years) who simultaneously adulates her outlandish success as a daytime TV courtroom judge.

So, I had to dive into her illustrious career myself to better understand the cause for such praise. A few interesting facts from my swim:

  • “Judge Judy” ran on CBS for 25 years (1996-2021)…resulting in 6,280 episodes.

  • She started her daytime court TV show when she was 52 years old. Here’s to quite the second act Judge Judy!

  • According to Forbes, her net worth in 2024 is…$560 million. That’s 112,000x the maximum amount ($5,000) one can be awarded in her small claims court.

  • For comparison, Judge Mathis has an estimated net worth of $25 million.

  • Since 2021, her daytime court changed to “Judy Justice” on Amazon’s Freevee.

They (other daytime TV judges) all look up to you (Judge Judy), financially
But they cannot get on the floor
Cuz even if they are double-digit millionaires
Compared to Judge Judy
They're poor
