Bo Burnham

I think everyone has a particular show that they most associate with the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic. For me, it’s Bo Burnham’s musical comedy special “Inside.” Inside was released on Netflix in May 2021. Burnham wrote, directed, filmed, and edited the special inside his guest house in Los Angeles during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ironically, my favorite song from Inside comes from the “Inside Outtakes,” he released following the initial release of Inside. His song “Five Years” imagines the banal quarrels of a couple five years into their relationship, including ordering takeout and insects in the house.

Now, my favorite song of all-time of Burnham’s is from his comedy special, “Make Happy.” Entitled “Can’t Handle This (Kanye Rant)”, Burnham combines the hilarity of a hip-hop styled rant with an order at Chipotle gone wrong.

Burnham has come a long way since he got his early start releasing YouTube videos like “i’m bo yo” in 2008.

As I know we are all plagued with scrolling endlessly to find TV shows and movies worth watching, I’ll leave two recommendations of Burnham’s that are worth your time: Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous (TV show, 1 season) and Eighth Grade (movie).
