Dr. Carter

Music therapy saves lives. Or at least according to Dr. Carter—aka Lil Wayne—his hip hop does.

In the sixth song on his album—”Tha Carter III” from 2008—Lil Wayne tries to save three patients as Dr. Carter.

Important social history, all three patients themselves are rappers.

What maladies do these patients suffer from?

Lack of concepts. Vocab and metaphors needing work. Swagger deficiency.

I’d like to see what ICD codes Dr. Carter picks out when he sits down to do his billing.

Spoiler—I'm no expert on hip hop related diseases—but I think Dr. Carter has an abysmal observed to expected mortality ratio.

Good evening Dr. Carter, it's been a long day
But this one looks much better than the others
His respect is back up, concepts sound good
His style has shown strong signs of improvement
All he needs now is his swagger

R

A favorite programming language for bioinformatics—R—was inspired by a similarly single letter named language, “S.”

Co-created in 1993 by two statistics professors at the University of Auckland, Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman, “R” is so named also to pay homage to their first names.

Another quirk of R is that since the 2.14.0 version, all versions have been named after a Peanuts comic and film.

The 4.4.1 version (2024-06-14) is named "Race for Your Life."

Thank you for reading and have a fulfilling weekend!
